Award recognizes women who demonstrate excellence in professional leadership, community service, and mentorship of future leaders
The Greater Phoenix Chamber announced the 11 women chosen as finalists for its prestigious ATHENA Awards, continuing its strong tradition of recognizing outstanding Valley businesswomen.
University of Phoenix is proud to announce that Kathleen Winston, Ph.D., RN, Dean of the College of Nursing, has been named as one of the eleven finalists for her leadership in her field, mentorship of other women throughout her career, and commitment to community service.
“Kathleen Winston is an exceptional leader, and we are fortunate to have her at our university. She brings dedication and innovation to the critical work of preparing nurses for practice and careers in the field, not to mention warmth and encouragement in all her interactions,” said John Woods, Ph.D., provost of University of Phoenix. “She is an extraordinary mentor and advocate for up-and-coming nurses and nursing educators alike.”
Dr. Winston has extensive experience in the nursing industry as a clinician, educator, and academic Dean. Winston is widely regarded as an expert, administrator, scholar and leader in higher education, and her experience in undergraduate and graduate nursing education spans more than thirty years. She also directed a National Institute of Health research grant for graduate education in high-risk home healthcare nursing practice, and as a curriculum expert Dr. Winston was a lead author for the California Healthcare Workforce standardized nursing curriculum state-wide project.
The Greater Phoenix Chamber’s ATHENA Awards program recognizes and celebrates the achievements of businesswomen across the Greater Phoenix region. The ATHENA Award, an internationally prized honor, recognizes women who demonstrate excellence in professional leadership, community service, and mentorship of future leaders. ATHENA winners are challenged across industries to continue their dedication to leading, serving, and mentoring. The award highlights three women each year who are at the top of their field and who invest in their career, their community, and other women.
This year’s ATHENA Awards will take place on November 18, 12:00-1:30pm, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge. Virtual options to attend are available. More information on the ATHENA Awards can be found here.
